John Egbert (ジョンエグベルト Jon Eguberuto?) is one of the main protagonists and the lead character in Luizaki's Homestuck Pretty Cure. His alter ego is Cure Gale (キュアゲール Kyua Gēru?), the Heir of Breath.

John is known for his nerdy attributes, from his passion (albeit somewhat amateur-ish) programming skills to liking games and bad movie films. Besides that, he's also shown to like pranking and doing magic, as well as being able to play the piano. Throughout the series, John is shown to always have the need to step in and do something as he feels confined within himself. He can also come of as naive sometimes despite his own experience with pranks, as Terezi had tricked him before that would put him at a severe disadvantage.

Etymology[]
The name John Egbert was made by Cuttlefish.[1] As a given name, John came from the Hebrew name "Yehochanan," meaning "Yahweh is gracious" or "Yahweh is merciful".[2] Egbert comes from the Old Germanic word for "bright edge (of a sword)".[3]
Gale is defined as a strong current of air.[4]
